In a novel protest, the Telangana Congress leaders on Friday celebrated Christmas at the site in Mahendra Hills where Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had laid the foundation stone for a Christian Bhavan last year.
Shabbir Ali, along with Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender, former Union minister Sarve Satyanarayana, former MLAs Marri Shashidhar Reddy and Malreddy Ranga Reddy, and other Congress leaders, cut a cake at the foundation stone of the non-existent Christian Bhavan.
Addressing the media later, Shabbir Ali said that KCR had cheated the Christian community by not fulfilling his promise made last year.
"All the projects, including 2-BHK houses, whose foundation stones are being laid by Panchayat Raj Minister K Tarakarama Rao and other ministers, will meet the same fate. Except the foundation stones, there will be nothing after the GHMC election," he quipped.
The Congress leaders said that the TRS was taking the credit for the projects initiated and executed by the previous Congress government. Danam Nagender appealed to the people not to get misled by the propaganda being carried out by the TRS leaders. Shashidhar Reddy said that the Congress would enlighten the people of Hyderabad about how they were being cheated by the TRS leaders. Sarve Satyanarayana slammed the TRS leaders for taking credit for the projects approved and executed during the Congress regime. He pointed out that the overhead tank in Marredpally was constructed during the UPA regime at a cost of Rs 120 crores, but KTR was making false claims that the project was started and completed during the 18-month rule of TRS government.
Later, the Congress leaders distributed clothes to poor people on the occasion of Christmas.
