The Khammam District Second Additional First Class Court issued a non-bailable warrant against senior Congress leader and former MP Renuka Chowdhury in a case of cheating.
A housewife, one Kalavathi Bukya, had lodged a complaint with the Khanapuram Haveli Police Station alleging that Chowdhury had cheated her family by promising an MLA ticket for her husband Ramji Naik in 2014 but not coming through despite taking a lot of money. Naik went into a depression and subsequently passed away, according to Bukya. She also said that when she confronted Chowdhury, the latter abused her and her (Chowdhury's) supporters attacked her.
Responding to the complaint, the police had registered a criminal case against the former MP under Sections 420 and 417 of the IPC.
The Second Additional First Class Court served notices on Chowdhury to appear before it to answer the charge. But the former MP neither agreed to receive the court notice nor attended the court, and finally the non-bailable warrant was issued against her today.
Chowdhury's lawyer however claimed that they never received the summons.
