Union Minister Manish Tiwari on Sunday put to rest all speculations of a snap poll, and said that there would be no such move.
Speaking to reporters here at Gandhi Bhavan, he claimed that the nation has witnessed much growth during the eight-year UPA rule when compared to the six-year NDA term. "UPA has the credit of taking tough decisions on national security," he said hinting at the decision to hang terrorists Afzal Guru and Ajmal Kasab.
During the NDA term, there were communal riots in Gujarat, besides conceding to the demands of terrorists and releasing them, thus compromising on national security, he said.
Several leaders of various organisations also called on Manish Tiwari at Gandhi Bhavan.
A delegation had brought to his notice the growing rate of suicides among youth for the cause of Telangana and urged the minister to persuade the Center on taking a early solution. "Since Telangana is a sensitive issue, the Centre is making all efforts to resolve it," he said.
Meanwhile, members of the Federation of the State Brahman Seva Associations met the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and submitted a memorandum pleading to empower the state in censorship of films. The state should have a say in the censorship of films, and the law to should be amended accordingly, the memorandum said.
There is every need to put an end to films which degrade religion and caste, they said in the memorandum. The Brahman Associations were locked in a pitched battle with the producer and director of the film Denikaina Ready recently. (INN)
