"The government did not take any decision to hike the power tariff. The Discoms have only sent in a proposal, and it is under consideration," said Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
With the all-round opposition on the hike in power charges, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is on defense mode saying that a decision has not been taken on the issue.
"The Government did not take any decision to hike the power tariff. The Discoms have only sent in a proposal, and it is under consideration," he said.
We will tell our view on the hike only after March, and any such decision will be taken only after discussing the matter in the cabinet, Kiran Kumar Reddy said.
The government has been widely criticized for the hike even from a couple members from his own cabinet from Congress, while all opposition parties have held dharnas against the proposed hike.
"It is not fair on part of the opposition parties to protest on issues which are still pending," Chief Minister said, and agreed that these surcharges are a burden on the common man. In future, we will take steps to see that the consumers are not affected, he said.
The crisis arose due to a drop in production, and Discoms have recommended to increase the fares to fill the losses, he added. (INN)
