Health Minister Etala Rajender today said that there was not even a single case of coronavirus discovered in the state.
The minister said that the government hospitals had conducted 70 tests and found no infection by the virus. He also said that due to increase in the day temperatures in the state, the possibility of the virus spreading in Telangana was low. However, the people should be cautious and visit doctors if they witnessed severe cold or other symptoms, he said.
Rajender also claimed that the state government hospitals were fully prepared with adequate facilities to take on the problem. The doctors and staff were ready at the Fever, Gandhi and Chest hospitals to check the problem, he asserted.
"We are conducting tests in Gandhi Hospital and getting reports in six hours in Secunderabad. Earlier we used to send the cases to Pune, but now that is not required. The state government is fully prepared to tackle the problem. We are also creating confidence among the people by releasing regular health bulletins on coronavirus," he added.
The minister said that he had also instructed the officials to conduct check-ups for coronavirus if any person was suspected to have it, and had ensured the availability of pulmonology doctors in all the teaching hospitals for that. He also appealed to those coming from China to visit the city hospitals for a coronavirus check-up, which needed about 10 hours.
