On the occasion of the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today said that Gandhi's theory of non-violence, peace and sacrifice was universal and eternal, and that no one could erase it.
Addressing a meeting after dedicating to the nation a 16-foot statue of Gandhi installed at the Gandhi Hospital in Musheerabad, the Chief Minister said that being born in the country where Gandhi lived was a great honour for all Indians.
KCR said that Gandhi was the man of our age who influenced the world with the doctrine of non-violence that Gautama Buddha and Jesus Christ too espoused.
Appreciating the "commendable job" of the Gandhi Hospital staff during the coronavirus pandemic, the CM said that the doctors and staff had bravely served the patients with or without PPE kits and other facilities, and had saved many people, including those who were denied treatment in private hospitals.
The doctors had fought the pandemic with the courage given by Gandhi's ideals, KCR said.
Claiming that Telangana had been progressing on all fronts due to its following the principles of Gandhi, the CM urged the intellectuals and scholars of the country to condemn any attempts made to criticise the Mahatma's principles and philosophy.
There were a few instances in recent times that Gandhi's principles had been criticised by a few vested interests, and such criticism should not be tolerated and should be condemned strongly, KCR added.
Later, the Chief Minister also dedicated the renovated Gandhi Park on M G Road, Secunderabad, to the nation.
The park has been renovated by the GHMC with an expenditure of Rs. 1.39 crore.
