A division bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, on Tuesday, set aside the election of Telugu Desam MLC Narsa Reddy from the local bodies' constituency of Nizamabad district.
The bench, while giving its verdict, declared the election of Narsa Reddy as invalid, and declared Venkat Rami Reddy of the Congress as elected by a margin of 2 votes.
Narsa Reddy's election was challenged by his nearest rival, Venkat Rami Reddy, in the state High Court.
Following the petition, the votes were re-counted in the presence of High Court judges, who declared Rami Reddy elected by 2 votes.
Narsa Reddy had filed a petition in the Supreme Court in this regard. However, the apex court then directed him to approach the state High Court.
After Tuesday's verdict of the High Court, Narsa Reddy said that he would move a petition in the Supreme Court to seek justice.
He said that after getting a copy of court's judgment, he would consult legal experts and file a petition in the apex court.
Following the HC verdict, the TDP's strength in the legislative council was reduced to 17. (INN)
