The process of appointing a new TPCC chief has reached its final stages after being
slowed down by months of indecisiveness owing to differences of opinion on the matter within the Congress.
According to sources, the list of probable candidates currently comprises Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and the controversial A Revanth Reddy.
Many claim that this sudden spurt in activity within the Congress has been prompted by the party's defeat in the recently held West Bengal elections. It would seem that the party is busying itself in attempts to revive itself.
Telangana's Congress leaders are also trying to regain their popularity in the state and want to ensure that the leaders picked to head the TPCC are those who can actively strengthen and revitalise the party and its rank and file. A list of candidates for several posts, therefore, had been given to party national president Sonia Gandhi so she could make the final choices for the same.
The party's high command is currently awaiting Gandhi's decision. She is likely to announce the names of the new TPCC head, working president, and vice presidents soon. In fact, sources from the Gandhi Bhavan claim that the AICC will make the announcement any time now.
Though reports suggest that Venkat Reddy and Revanth Reddy are the current frontrunners for the post of TPCC chief, earlier, former ministers Sridhar Babu, T Jeevan Reddy, and Madhu Yashki Goud were also being considered for the post.
The need to appoint a new TPCC chief has arisen since the current TPCC, N Uttam Kumar Reddy,
tendered his resignation from the post last year, following the Congress'
dismal performance in the GHMC elections held on December 1, 2020.
