Winning 48 seats in the GHMC elections, the BJP today made a massive statement about its footprint in Telangana.
The TRS may still have emerged the single largest party, but it was the saffron party partying after the results.
The BJP, which had competed in an alliance with the TDP in the last GHMC elections in 2016, had just 4 seats in the outgoing GHMC EC, showcasing just how much things have changed in the state.
Indeed, given that the BJP also won the Dubbaka by-election against the massively fancied TRS, and won 4 Lok Sabha seats from the state in 2019 compared to the TRS' 9, it appears that the momentum is firmly with the party in the state.
As of 8:30 pm today, the following are the results:
TRS: 55 seats (down from 99)
BJP: 48 seats (up from 4)
AIMIM: 43 seats (down from 44)
Congress: 2 seats (2 in 2016, too)
The results of two seats are yet to be declared.
The Congress faced rout once again, and its relevance in the state is firmly in question now. The TDP, of course, lived up to all the write-offs.
The Old City-based AIMIM expectedly retained its seats in its bastion.
The good news for the city's residents is that the TRS-AIMIM will continue to rule the GHMC, since that would mean that the corporation can expect support from the state government.
And if the TRS lives up to all its election promises, it promises to be better days for the Hyderabadis.
