New EV Policy In Telangana: No Registration Fee, Road Tax
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that all EV vehicles purchased and registered in Telangana would henceforth be exempted from registration fees and road tax.
Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar today announced the Telangana Electric Vehicle & Energy Storage Policy 2020-2030 aimed at encouraging the electric vehicles in the State, which will come into effect from November 18.
Disclosing the details of the new policy at a media conference at the Secretariat, the minister said that all EV vehicles purchased and registered in Telangana would henceforth be exempted from registration fees and road tax.
He said that the new policy, brought in by GO 41, would be in effect until December 31, 2026, and that there would be a 100% exemption on registration fees for electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers, autos and transport buses.
"It will save consumers up to Rs 1 lakh per year. The EV policy is being introduced with the aim of preventing Hyderabad from becoming a polluted city like Delhi," Prabhakar said.
The minister further said that the government had decided to replace the 3,000 TSRTC buses currently in Hyderabad with electric buses, and that soon all RTC buses running in Hyderabad would be EVs.
The 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees will be provided for electric two-wheelers, 4-wheelers, commercial passenger vehicles such as taxis and tourist cabs, three-seater auto-rickshaws (GHMC and non-GHMC areas), electric light goods carriers including three-wheeled goods vehicles (GHMC and non-GHMC areas) and electric tractors.
