The Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe the encounter of slain mafia kingpin Mohammed Nayeemuddin, interrogated L B Nagar TDP MLA R Krishnaiah for nearly an hour on his alleged links with the gangster, at Narsingi Police Station.
Krishnaiah attended the interrogation and made his arguments in the presence of the SIT.
Speaking to the media after the interrogation, Krishnaiah said that the three SIT officials have questioned him.
He said that he told the SIT that he knew Nayeem, but there were no financial transactions between him and the latter.
"I would not indulge in any such activities for money. I am a leader who is striving for the welfare of backward classes," he said.
Retracting his statement that the TRS government was conspiring against him, he said, "Earlier I felt that the State government was trying to link Nayeem with me for their own agenda. But after the interrogation, I understand that I was wrong, and apologize for the misunderstanding."
In a strange revelation, he said that Nayeem wanted to see him (Krishnaiah) as the Chief Minister of the State. He said he would not become Chief Minister of the State just because Nayeem wanted.
"I can become the CM only when the people wanted it," he said. He reiterated that he never indulged in any business with Nayeem, and that he became an MLA fair and square.
