Environment and Forests Minister P Ramachandra Reddy on Thursday said that Chief Minister K Rosaiah will inaugurate a national conference of the National Green Corps (NGC) on August 26.
Ramachandra Reddy said that Rosaiah would inaugurate the conference at CESS Auditorium, Institute of Genetic Compound, Ameerpet.
The minister revealed that 220 delegates from 150 schools from across the country are expected to participate in the meeting.
He reminded media persons at the Secretariat that the state government had set up the National Green Corps to create awareness among students and youth on issues of the environment, and power and water saving. He said that 3 lakh students have been enrolled in the NGC clubs, from 5,750 schools in the state.
Andhra Pradesh stood at the top in the implementation of environmental education programs, he pointed out.
NGC has developed environmental curriculum books for 9th, 10th and Intermediate courses in the state, he stated.
As part of 4-day conference, group discussions, workshops on puppetry, journalism, flash mob dance, green idol-making, cartooning, debates and mock eco Parliaments would be held, he added.
