Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today slammed officials for the delay in the Centre-funded national Polavaram project.
After a virtual inspection of the Polavaram project carried out from the camp office, the Chief Minister reprimanded the construction companies for failing to reach targets including excavation works of the spillway, spill channel and power house, which resulted in the project being delayed.
"The spillway excavation works should be done by January, 2017, the spill channel excavation by May and the powerhouse excavation by March," Naidu said.
Gate design and approval should be finished by the end of 2016, he added. The CM informed the officials that funds towards pending bills worth Rs. 110 crores would be released today.
"I will not accept any kind of dereliction in duty or delays in the national project. This is a central funded project of mammoth proportions, and officials should act accordingly," the CM told the contractors.
Responding to the CM, the officials agreed, and informed the Chief Minister that during the last week, around 52,000 cubic meters of soil per day had been excavated. This number would be increased to 75,000 cubic meters soon, they said, adding that an additional 30 tippers were deployed today, and 750 earth moving machines would be deployed soon to take up large scale excavation works.
They also informed him that 381.1 lakh cubic meters of spill channel, 25.80 lakh cubic meters of spillway and 58.46 lakh cubic meters for the power house were yet to be excavated.
The works at the left main canal of the Polavaram Project was gaining momentum, the officials told the CM, and added that 60% of the works had already been completed.
