Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday condemned the arrest of government employees, and stated that the government had no right to repress legitimate and peaceful protests.
In a letter to Chief Minister K Rosaiah, Naidu demanded that the government allow the 'Chalo Hyderabad' rally, taken out by the Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers, Workers and Pensioners, be allowed to go on peacefully. He also stated that his party has lent its unconditional support to the rally.
The former chief minister also pointed out that the government had no right to suppress any legitimate agitation. He added the 'Chalo Hyderabad' agitation was held peacefully, hence any move to stop it was against the law.
Naidu stated that the government, by arresting the protesting employees, had shown that it was against them. The TDP chief added that the Congress government, in the past 6 years, had failed to recruit all the required staff due to which employees were being overburdened, and were facing severe work pressure.
The TDP chief further added that the present crisis had arisen only because the government had failed to give proper attention to the problems of its employees.
The TDP chief demanded that the government release all the arrested employees, and also apologise for its high-handedness without any conditions.
The former chief minister also said that the government should also take the initiative and come forward to find a solution to the problems of the employees.
