Telugu film actor Nagarjuna Akkineni today knocked the doors of the Nampally criminal courts against the comments made by State Endowments Minister Konda Surekha against his family members.
Nagarjuna filed a defamation suit in the court against Surekha for her comments on BRS leader K T Rama Rao involving his family.
In his petition, the actor alleged that Surekha had made comments that hurt the dignity and prestige of his family, and sought criminal action against her.
The court is likely to hear Nagarjuna's petition on Friday.
Nagarjuna had on Wednesday said on X that Surekha's comments were false.
"I strongly condemn the comments of minister Konda Surekha Don't use the lives of film personalities who stay away from politics to criticise your opponents. Respect the personal lives of fellow human-beings. The comments you have made in your position as a responsible official and a woman, and the accusations you have made against our family, are completel false. I request you to immediately retract your comments," he had posted.
Nagarjuna's wife and actress Amala complained to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over Surekha's remarks. She said that her family should not be dragged into political controversies, and that it was shameful to make baseless allegations about her husband.
"What will happen to this country if politicians behave like criminals? Rahul Gandhi should take the initiative to make Surekha withdraw her comments and apologise," she said.
For the uninitiated, Surekha had implied that Nagarjuna tried to force Samantha, his then daughter-in-law, to "accompany" then minister K T Rama Rao, to prevent his N Convention convention hall from being razed.
