Senior Congress leader and former minister D K Aruna today alleged that Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who joined the Congress recently, was not a strong leader, just a fat man.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Aruna said that MLC K Damodar Reddy was the strongest leader of the Congress in Nagarkurnool, and asked Nagam why he lost the election the last time if he was a strong leader. She said that Damodar Reddy had lost the 2014 election by a slender 1,400-vote margin, showing how popular he was in the constituency.
Aruna said that the party high command had erred in admitting Nagam into the party without eliciting the views of senior and strong leaders in the party. It had happened as a part of a political conspiracy, she claimed. She added that she had come to know that Damodar Reddy was contemplating moving to another political party due to the mental agony caused by Nagam's entry, and that she had requested Damodar Reddy to drop his decision.
"We assured Damodar Reddy that we would take his agony to AICC chief Rahul Gandhi" she said, and asserted that the Nagarkurnool ticket was not confirmed for Nagam.
She said that there was no use of weak leaders joining the party and strong leaders leaving it with heavy hearts.
Aruna also said that she was not attending the CLP meeting to be held on June 8 at CLP leader K Jana Reddy's residence as she had an important program at Gadwal.
