Former Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly speaker and Jana Sena Party (JSP) leader Nadendla Manohar today left many in the state stunned when he claimed that Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi would support the JSP in the days to come.
Speaking at a gathering of party workers, Manohar said, "Chiranjeevi will soon extend his support to his brother and TJS founder, actor Pawan Kalyan, in his political journey."
"Pawan Kalyan had quit acting for the sake of politics. But now, as we are relatively less occupied, he has decided to pursue acting again. He took the decision after his brother Chiranjeevi, who founded the Praja Rajyam Party, encouraged him to act for another one or two years before plunging into politics completely," the JSP leader added.
The mention of Chiranjeevi's possible involvement in the party saw the crowd of party workers erupt into loud applause and cheers.
(While the meeting was a closed-door one, a video, shot presumably by one of the party workers present at the venue, has surfaced recently.)
As Chiranjeevi, the founder of his own political party, has been inactive in politics for some years now, Manohar's revelations have rekindled the hopes of the former's supporters and fans that he will return to the state's political arena soon.
The actor had established the Praja Rajyam Party in 2008 which was formally merged with the Congress in 2012. However, this did not mark the end of his political career as he then went on to become the union Minister of Tourism later that year. Since the end of his term in 2014, though, Chiranjeevi had taken a step back from politics.
