Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reiterated the government's commitment towards the education and health sectors, and stated that "Vidya Sambaraalu" will be celebrated all over the state soon.
The Chief Minister said that top priority was also being given for the allocation of education and health opportunities to members of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes through the SC, ST sub-plan.
The Chief Minister inaugurated "Open-Minds - A Birla School" at Kollur, on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Saturday. Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, Dr J.Geetha Reddy, M Maheedhar Reddy, and several senior officials and non-officials participated in the programme.
The Chief Minister said that during the "Education Fortnight" from July 9-21, 2012, the government had either spent or sanctioned Rs. 2,349 crores on infrastructure, and other facilities in the primary and secondary education sector.
1.12 crore pairs of uniforms worth Rs. 225 crores had been distributed to 56 lakhs children, and 5.13 crore text books worth Rs. 127 crores were also distributed.
500 school complexes, under the Rajiv Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan, were inaugurated and 355 foundations were laid for Model School Girls Hostels at an estimated cost of Rs. 454 crores. (INN)
