The Muslim United Forum has requested Governor E S L Narasimhan to order a judicial probe into the communal clashes and police firing in the Kishanbagh area which claimed 3 lives about a fortnight ago.
A delegation comprising Majlis-e-Ulema-e-Deccan President Moulana Qubool Pasha Shattari, MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi, Mufti Sadeq Mohiuddin, Moulana Jaffer Pasha Hussami, Raheemuddin Ansari, Masood Mujtahedi and others called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.
Speaking to media persons later, Moulana Shattari and Asaduddin Owaisi said that the Governor had been requested to order a probe into the incident through a sitting judge of the High Court.
They also demanded action against the security personnel who opened fire on the mob.
They said that several Muslim youth also were shot dead while they were protesting after the bomb blasts at Mecca Masjid in May 2007.
They demanded that stern action should be taken against the guilty police officials who resorted to opening fire instead of using other methods to disperse the mob.
The Muslim leaders also demanded an increase in compensation from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh for the families of each of those killed in the police firing.
They also sought assistance for those injured in the police firing and communal clashes.
Moulana Shattari said that the Governor had been requested to take immediate steps to avoid such instances of communal violence in future. (INN)
