Telangana Minister for Civil Supplies Gangula Kamalakar laid a foundation stone for the construction of a Munnuru Kapu tower at Kokapet, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, on Thursday.
Addressing a public meeting to mark the occasion, Kamalakar said that the State government had earmarked a total of 82 acres of land for the construction of Self-Respect Buildings to 42 backward class communities in Telangana, of which five acres were awarded to the Munnuru Kapu community.
The community has also been given an additional Rs 5 crore.
Kamalakar said that the proposed MK tower would consist of a hostel, a library and an auditorium, a dormitory, a multi-purpose hall and a recreation centre.
Minister for Backward Classes Srinivas Goud, who was the chief guest at the program, said that the backward classes were being prominently recognised by the TRS government, and K Chandrashekar Rao was the first Chief Minister in the whole country to allocate money for the construction of self-respect buildings for the BCs.
Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, MLAs Jogu Ramanna, Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and Korukanti Chander, MLC Dande Vittal, senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao and leaders from the community were present.
