Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today expressed serious displeasure over the GHMC's outsourced workers continuing their strike for the eighth consecutive day.
KCR gave an ultimatum to the striking workers to withdraw their stir by the evening and resume duties by Tuesday morning as usual.
The Chief Minister said that since the outsourced employees were not employees of the corporation, they must offer services or would be replaced by others.
The government will consider their demands for salary hike and others after a discussion with officials only if and when they resume duties, especially since Ramzan and other festivals were close.
The government would press into service the Army, police and other officials as an alternative to take up cleaning works, the Chief Minister warned.
Caught in the trap of some trade unions, the workers were acting adamantly and abstaining from duties, which amounted to dereliction of duty, he noted.
KCR also mentioned that he had already announced some time ago that he would consider an increase in their salaries as they were getting meagre amounts.
In a press communiqué on Monday, the Chief Minister who held a high level review meeting with Labour Minister N Narasimha Reddy, Excise Minister Padma Rao Goud and GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar at his camp office, termed the strike as unwarranted.
Though the Chief Minister was considering a hike in salaries, the workers were being adamant and causing much inconvenience to the people by being absent, a CMO release said. (NSS)
