BJP MP Etala Rajender made headlines today after slapping a real estate broker accused of illegally seizing land from poor individuals.
The video of the incident, which occurred in Ekashila Nagar under Pocharam municipality, has since gone viral on the social media, sparking widespread discussions.
The confrontation unfolded after some people approached Rajender with complaints about encroachments of their lands by local real estate brokers. In response, the MP personally visited the site to inspect the encroached lands.
Witnesses reported that tensions escalated as the MP confronted one of the brokers, a G Upendra, accusing him of exploiting the poor and causing significant distress. At a point the MP lost his cool and slapped the broker.
Rajender's followers and the alleged victims also reportedly attacked the broker.
Addressing the media later, Rajender criticized the involvement of certain officials in supporting land brokers. "I have spoken to the district Collector and the Commissioner of Police regarding the plight of the poor who purchased plots of land in good faith. Some individuals are using forged documents to illegally seize these lands. Strict action must be taken against officials too who collude with such brokers," he said.
The MP also said that many individuals were unknowingly occupying encroached lands due to the brokers' fraudulent activities. He warned of severe consequences for those encroaching on land purchased by the underprivileged.
Rajender claimed that his party the BJP had been instrumental in the development of several colonies for the poor. "The BJP stands with the poor and will ensure that their rights are protected. We are not intimidated by the ruling party or the police," he said.
A case has been registered against Rajender based on a complaint by the realtor Upendra. The Pocharam police have booked cases under sections 126(2), 115(2), 352, and 351(2) r/w 189(2) and 191(2) of the IPC and the BNS Act.
