Tollywood actor and producer Manchu Mohan Babu was convicted in a cheque bounce case, and was awarded a one-year jail sentence and asked to pay Rs 40.75 lakh, the cheque amount, to the complainant by the Erramanzil court on Tuesday.
The case was filed by filmmaker Y V S Chowdary against Mohan Babu. In 2010, Chowdary had directed a movie starring Mohan Babu's son Manchu Vishnu,
Saleem. As remuneration, Mohan Babu first paid Rs. 1.1 crore to the director, and later handed over another cheque of Rs 40.75 lakh to him as the final installment. The cheque bounced and the director went to court.
In the case, the court named Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures as principal accused and Mohan Babu as second accused. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court found Mohan Babu guilty and sentenced him to one year rigorous imprisonment and asked him to also pay the Rs 40.75 lakh to Chowdary.
After the delivery of judgment, Mohan Babu moved a bail petition and agreed to pay the money to the complainant. With this, the judge granted the actor bail. The actor also sought 30 days' time to pay the money to Y V S Chowdary.
