Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao presented the
state Budget for 2021-22 at 11:30 am at the Telangana Assembly today.
In it, Rs 5 crore was allocated to each MLA and MLC in the state for the development of their respective constituencies. A total of Rs 800 crore was allocated for this.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao said that the government had decided to provide each MLA and MLC with Rs 5 crore for the development of their constituency, and that the relevant government officials would issue further guidelines in this regard shortly.
The minister also spoke about the TRS regime's commitment to empowering its MLAs and MLCs, and claimed, "Nowhere else in the country are there offices for the members of the state legislature in their constituencies. It is a matter of disgrace that no state government has thought it necessary yet to develop offices for the MLAs. They have been forced to use their residences as their offices as a result. But our government has built camp offices for our MLAs in accordance with their status and requirements. Telangana is the only state which has earned this distinction. So far, the office works have been completed in 89 Assembly constituencies. These have become places that the people of the state visit to seek help, and are symbols of the prestige, honour and responsibilities that come with being an MLA."
Apart from the funds given to the MLAs and MLCs, the government has also sanctioned developmental funds of Rs 250 crore for the Warangal Municipal Corporation, and Rs 150 crore for the Khammam Municipal Corporation.
