The Jeedimetla police on Friday arrested 2 students in connection with the death of a 6th class student, Bhavani, who had been missing for the past 10 days.
According to Inspector Sanjeev Reddy, the 2 students, Pappu and Srikanth, are accused of pushing the girl Bhavani (14) into the Krishna river off the Krishna Barrage in Vijayawada.
Bhavani's body was found at Thadepalligudem in the Guntur district, after being dragged by the swirling waters.
Bhavani, daughter of Panga Yadagiri and Shashikala, was a student of Sai Vidyaniketan School in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar in Jeedimetla.
She had gone with Pappu and his friend Srikanth to Krishna district on April 21st. Pappu told the police that he had taken the help of Bhavani's friend Sirisha to get her out of her home, and that she had accompanied him willingly.
Bhavani, at the time of leaving her residence, had told her parents that she was going to attend a birthday party of one of her friends.
Later, the trio had then proceeded to Tirupati, and then to Vijayawada from there on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Bhavani's parents had lodged a complaint that their daughter was missing. The police had gone to Pappu's residence and had questioned his parents, as she was known to be friendly with him. When Pappu called his home, his parents had asked him to return.
However, Bhavani had refused to return, fearing that she would be scolded by her parents. During an argument that had ensued, in a fit of anger Pappu had pushed Bhavani into the river, the police revealed.
Pappu and Srikanth later returned to Hyderabad. By then, Bhavani's body had been discovered at Thadepalligudem.
The police have registered a case, and further investigations are on. (INN)
