Niranjan Reddy Promises BJP He'll Resign By Evening
The Telangana agriculture minister offered to resign if the protesting BJP leaders got a letter from the Centre by 5 pm that it would purchase paddy from the state.
Telangana Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy today threw a challenge to the state BJP leaders, who are protesting the state's discouraging its farmers from growing paddy, to get a letter from the Centre by 5 pm today stating that it would purchase paddy from the state.
He said that he would resign from his post if the BJP got the letter from the Centre, and that if the BJP failed, either Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay or union minister Kishan Reddy should quit.
For the unversed, Sanjay has undertaken a "deeksha" protesting the state government's stand on cultivation of paddy by the farmers.
Niranjan Reddy said that the state government had spent Rs. 1 lakh crore on purchase of paddy from the farmers by opening purchase centres in every village. The Centre on the other hand had written that it could not purchase any paddy as there were enough stocks, Reddy said.
He asked the BJP leaders to continue their deeksha till the Centre purchased every grain from the state. He added that the BJP leaders were resorting to a fake protest keeping in view the Huzurabad by-election, and that they should give up trying to mislead the people.
