Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy today donned the role of a TSRTC bus driver as he drove a bus of the corporation to the Secretariat.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka along with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy flagged off 22 electric buses belonging to the TSRTC at Necklace Road today.
Komatireddy then boarded one of the buses and sat in the driver's seat, and drove the vehicle to the Secretariat.
Bhatti Vikramarka and Ponnam Prabhakar also boarded the same bus and enjoyed the journey.
On the occasion, a program was organised on the premises of the Secretariat where the Deputy CM said that in the previous government RTC staff used to get into trouble due to overdue salaries, and there was concern that the government would need to sell off the corporation's assets.
"However, after the Congress government came to power, fears and worries have been removed from the minds of the employees. The State government has initiated various measures to strengthen the corporation and work for the welfare of its employees. The credit for providing free bus travel to women also belongs to the Congress government," Bhatti said.
Pointing out that the Congress government had successfully implemented three promises - Indiramma houses, Gruha Jyothi and Mahalakshmi - within three months, Bhatti reiterated that the government would fulfill every single promise it had made during the Assembly election campaign, and would work hard for the development of the State.
