The MIM (Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen) has again professed its support for a separate "Rayala-Telangana" state, on Monday. The Justice B N Srikrishna Committee (Telangana Committee) is in the state this week, and as part of its consultations with political parties - and their sub-streams of various support groups for the Telangana cause - the committee met the MIM delegation. The team was led by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
The MIM told the Srikrishna panel that it prefers a united Andhra Pradesh over a separate Telangana. However, according to the party, if bifurcation was inevitable, then Hyderabad should be made the capital of the Telangana region and Rayalaseema also must be merged with Telangana. Hyderabad must not be made a union territory, Owaisi told the press.
The party also said that it needed assurances for the protection of lives and property of the Muslim community, as well as for the promotion of Urdu in both the states.
The Srikrishna panel also met Andhra leaders of the TDP on Monday. Meetings were held at the Lake View Guest House.
