The health condition of Akbaruddin Owaisi has been termed as 'safe' by the 10 doctors operating on him at the Owaisi Hospital. At present 2 of the 4 bullets have been removed from his body, and he will be operated upon again at 6pm today.
He may be shifted to Care Hospital later, if his condition worsens.
In a
sensational shoot-out, Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi was stabbed and then fired at this morning when he was undertaking a padayatra in the Barkas area of the old city.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Balala, who also sustained some injuries in the attack, has come out of the hospital and addressed those gathered outside.
CM Kiran Kumar Reddy, Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and DGP Aravinda Rao paid a visit to the Owaisi Hospital.
N Chandrababu Naidu, Chiranjeevi, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Union Minister Jaipal Reddy have condemned the attacks on the MIM leader. Jaganmohan Reddy and Jaipal Reddy are expected to arrive in Hyderabad soon.
Anticipating trouble, several regions of the Old City, including Yousufguda, Santhosh Nagar, Mirchowk, Shahalibanda and Charminar, were closed down.
Sabitha Indra Reddy stated that a special team had been formed to nab the culprits. She asked the people of the city to remain peaceful and cooperate with the authorities in maintaining order in Hyderabad.
