3 bullets out and 1 more to go, said doctors operating on Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who was
shot at this morning when he was out on a padayatra in the Barkas area of the Old City. "His vital organs are functioning properly, and there is no danger to his life," the doctors added.
Even as hundreds of anxious MIM workers surround the Owaisi Hospital in Santoshnagar, 20,000 police personnel have been deputed by police Commissioner A K Khan to prevent possible violence in certain areas of the Old City.
Earlier, Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy had said that special police forces have been dispatched to nab the guilty involved in the incident.
Talking to media persons, the DGP Aravinda Rao stated that the situation at the Old City is under control.
Meanwhile, MP Asaduddin Owaisi, the elder brother of Akbaruddin, has demanded that the Chief Minister order an investigation into the assault on the MIM MLA, and has called for a Hyderabad bandh tomorrow.
The prime accused, Mohammed Pehalwaan, in his defence, alleged that the MIM party was nothing short of the mafia, and held it responsible for beginning the assault. He further revealed that the incident was an outburst of the long-standing rivalry between the MIM and MBT party workers.
Condemning the attack on Owaisi, former Minister Shabbir Ali stated that he would visit the MIM MLA soon.
