MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Monday demanded that the Telangana government declare a public holiday on the day after Maha Siva Ratri every year.
Participating in the debate on the state budget in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, the MIM leader said that the devotees observed a fast during the day and offered prayers throughout the night on the occasion of Maha Siva Ratri. Therefore, the next day should be declared a public holiday so as to enable the devotees to rest properly.
Owaisi also welcomed the allotment of Rs 100 crores for the Yadagirigutta temple, and demanded that similar funds be allocated for the Medak Church, and the prominent dargahs of Hazrath Baba Sharfuddin and Hazrath Jahangir Peeran.
He also requested the government to release Rs 6.5 crores for the construction of a ramp at Dargah Hazrath Baba Sharfuddin. He said that the ramp had already been sanctioned by the previous government. (INN)
