A heated debate took place during the passing of the motion of thanks to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan's address on Saturday between the ruling BRS government and the AIMIM.
The debate was triggered when AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi requested the Assembly Speaker to allow more time for the AIMIM legislators to discuss the people's issues in the House.
Minister K T Rama Rao retorted by questioning the AIMIM's need for more time, given that they had only 7 MLAs.
This resulted in sharp exchanges between KTR and Akbaruddin Owaisi. Annoyed by KTR's remarks, Owaisi said that his party would field candidates in at least 50 Assembly constituencies in the upcoming elections and aim to enter the State Assembly with 15 legislators. He also said that he would discuss the possibility of fielding more candidates with the AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi.
The MIM MLA also said that while the BRS government was working towards the overall development of Hyderabad, it had overlooked the Old City. He demanded that the government also consider developing the surrounding areas of the historical Charminar.
