Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Central Zone, Akun Sabharwal, on Friday stated that 16 cases have been registered in connection with the attack on mediapersons during the Million March which was called by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TPJAC).
Talking to mediapersons after reviewing the situation on Tank Bund with his officials on Friday, Dr. Sabharwal stated that 6 people, who had been involved the violence that took place during and after the Million March, have been taken into custody. Besides the 6 people arrested on Friday, as many as 48 were taken into custody on Thursday.
The DCP also stated that the damage to the statues was pre-planned and that the police has clear-cut evidence. He also said that the activists were carrying hammers, blades and ropes to pull down the statues on Tank Bund.
Dr. Sabharwal said that the police are making efforts to trace the guilty by collection of video footage from private television channels. "Stringent action will be initiated against the guilty," the DCP warned.
As many as 13 of the 33 statues on Tank Bund, belonging to eminent personalities whose contribution to Telugu culture is universally accepted, were pulled down, and 4 other statues were damaged by the pro-Telangana activists during the Million March on Thursday.
