The city police, on Wednesday, arrested 4 students who allegedly belonged to a group of Osmania University Students' Joint Action Committee (OUSJAC), for
attacking 'non-local' lecturers who had come to evaluate B. Ed answer scripts on the Osmania university campus on August 28.
The police identified the 'vigilantes' as Saidulu, Jagan, Srinivas and Veerababu. The attackers alleged that non-local lecturers were evaluating with a bias, which was harming interests of Telangana students.
The manhandling of the non-Telangana evaluators had led to an outcry across the state and triggered protests. Governor E S L Narasimhan had expressed his anguish at the deterioration of the situation, and ordered Vice-Chancellor Tirupati Rao to submit a report on the entire incident.
Meanwhile, Osmania University Students' Joint Action Committee demanded that the police release all the arrested immediately and also lift police cases against them.
The JAC threatened to intensify its agitation if the police fails to release them immediately.
