Mentally Unstable Man Stabs Girl

The accused attacked the girl following a petty quarrel between his and the victim's mother.
Hyderabad | 20th October 2010
In a gruesome incident, a 12-year-old girl was stabbed by a mentally unsound person at Sultannagar, Machilipatnam mandal in Krishna district, following a petty quarrel between their 2 families.

According to Circle Inspector Subrahmanyam, the accused Durga Prasad (35), son of Ranga Rao, is a labourer and a resident of Sultannagar.

Subrahmanyam revealed that Durga Prasad attacked the girl following a petty quarrel between his and the victim's mother early on Wednesday.

The 7th standard girl, identified as Nandini, was rushed to hospital by neighbours, with injuries at the back of her neck. She is stated to be in a serious but stable condition.

Durga Prasad is believed to have been disturbed after being unemployed since the past few months. He was living with his father after his wife Bhulakshmi left him 6 months after marriage due to his unemployment and abnormal behavior.

The accused, according to the police, has been behaving abnormally since the past few days after his family failed to provide him food regularly, and because of his neighbour's taunts. On Tuesday night, he entered into an argument with his father, demanding that he be allowed to go to Hyderabad to eke out a livelihood.

Following the attack on Nandini, Durga Prasad was caught by neighbours, who took him to the police station and filed a complaint.

Durga Prasad confessed to the attack and told the policemen that they could send him to jail where he could at least get two square meals a day.

A case has been registered.
