Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy today announced that plans were underway to lay a railway line connecting Mellacheruvu in Suryapet district with Hyderabad.
Speaking to the media after participating in special rituals at the historic Sri Ishta Kameswari Sametha Swayambhu Shambulingeshwara Swamy temple in Mellacheruvu at 4 am on Sivaratri, the minister spoke about the temple's growing prominence and the urgent need for better infrastructure to accommodate the rising influx of devotees from across the State.
He said that the State government had sanctioned Rs 1 crore this year for temple development for the Sivaratri festivities, to provide essential facilities for the growing number of pilgrims.
Railway connectivity was important also for the rapidly expanding industrial zone in the district, and the proposal was high on his agenda, he said.
"I have been coordinating with the concerned agencies and authorities to make the project a reality. The plans include a double railway line from Mellacheruvu to Hyderabad, along with passenger train services to improve accessibility for locals and pilgrims alike," Reddy said.
The minister recalled his earlier efforts to secure railway connectivity by engaging with the Centre, and said that the current initiative would further strengthen industrial growth and ease travel.
He also spoke about his three-decade association with Mellacheruvu, during which he played a key role in transforming the town into a development hub. He said that bringing the Krishna river waters for irrigation and drinking purposes to Mellacheruvu and its surrounding villages was one of his most satisfying achievements.
