High Court Judge Justice B Prakasha Rao on Saturday inaugurated a 'Mega Lok Adalath' on the premises of the City Civil Courts, Secunderabad.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Chairman, Metropolitan Legal Services Authority G Shyam Prasad, AP State Legal Services Authority Member-Secretary S Ravi Kumar and Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Prakasha Rao stressed the importance of quick disposal of cases in the interest of natural justice.
He also requested all judicial officials to popularize the importance of legal aid programs, legal literacy programs, and pre-litigation facilities among the people with the support of departments like the police and revenue.
A K Khan appealed to the public to have an amicable settlement of petty offences/ disputes in general, and family disputes in particular, as was the case in the good old days wherein village sangams/assembly used to settle such disputes among them by the village elders, so that both the parties would not go to the courts and waste their valuable money and time.
He also appealed the litigant parties to utilize the Lok Adalath programs to have a quick disposal of cases, and to reduce the work load of courts.
In the Mega Lok Adalat, a total of 205 cases ended in compromise, and settlements reached out of court.
The cases that were compromised on Saturday were of petty theft, road accidents, dowry harassment, threatening and criminal intimidation, trespassing and excise.
