May Day, also known as Labour Day, was celebrated with gusto all over the state on Sunday, and various political parties and employees of corporate companies took out rallies.
Celebrating May Day, the Communist Party of India's (CPI) trade union wing All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) conducted a rally from Jeedimetla Junction to Shahpur.
Clad in red, the employees of various corporate companies conducted rallies on foot and on bikes, all over the state.
Ex-CM Rosaiah asked the government to introduce schemes that benefit the workers, after hoisting the Indian tri-colour in front of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) building on Sunday morning, as a part of the May Day celebrations.
May 1st is celebrated as May Day or Labour Day all over the world. The concept of May Day dates back to 1st May 1886, when several labour unions across the USA went on strike demanding an 8-hour workday. Much blood was spilled and many people lost their lives before their demands were met.
The first of May is a major state holiday in USA and Russia, and a public holiday in India.
