Eminent Maoist leader Gaddam Madhukar, who was nabbed by the city police recently, succumbed to post Covid-19 complications in the wee hours of the day, today.
The leader was undergoing treatment at the Osmania General Hospital after he suffered a heart attack. He had also been suffering from Covid-19 at the time of his arrest.
Madhukar's body was shifted to his natal place, Bejjar mandal's Kothapally village, in Komuram Bhim Asifabad district, for his last rites following an autopsy.
The Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee communications head, who had successfully been evading arrest for more than two decades, had been forced to come out of hiding to avail himself of treatment for Covid-19 in Warangal. The police arrested Madhukar, alias Shobhroy, near Mulugu Road in Warangal (Urban) district during a vehicle check after which they shifted him to the Osmania General Hospital on June 2.
While under arrest, Madhukar had revealed that though several senior Maoist leaders, including Central Committee members Katakam Sudershan alias Dula Dada and Thippiri Tirupathi alias Kummu Dada, and cadres had tested positive for Covid-19, the CPI (Maoist) high command was not allowing them to seek treatment outside.
