Jangaon: Many BJP Men Hurt As TRS Workers Hurl Stones

Several BJP workers sustained grievous injuries when their TRS rivals pelted stones at them at a program organised at Devaruppula village of Jangaon.
Hyderabad | 15th August 2022
Several BJP workers are reported to have sustained grievous injuries when their TRS rivals pelted stones at them at an Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav program organised by the saffron party at Devaruppula village of Jangaon district on Monday.

While two BJP workers suffered head injuries, several others received simple injuries on their bodies due to the allegedly sudden attack by the TRS workers with stones and sticks right in front of the police.

The BJP alleged that the police, who reportedly turned a blind eye to the TRS activists' attacks, resorted to a lathi charge on the BJP workers when they tried to repulse the TRS attack.

The BJP alleged that though there were intelligence reports about a possible attack by the TRS workers, the police did not take any precautionary measures.

Expressing anger at the Jangaon Commissioner of Police, Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar accused him of behaving like a TRS activist rather than as a police official.

"If you can't control the law and order, better quit as the Police Commissioner and sit at home," Bandi said, and spoke to Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy and lodged a complaint with him over the incident.

He said that the DGP should respond immediately and take action against the police officials responsible for the lathi charge.

"Otherwise, we will bring the injured BJP workers and stage a dharna at the BJP office," he said.

Bandi also said that the DGP should ensure that his padayatra continued peacefully.

"If such attacks are repeated, the police will be held responsible for the repercussions," Bandi warned.

The BJP president wondered why the TRS men would attack a peaceful rally of the BJP to understand the people's issues.

"When farmers protested against the government, they were handcuffed and jailed. Unemployed youth were being booked in criminal cases. Now the TRS leaders are not hesitating even to kill those who question their atrocities," he alleged.

The BJP president said that there would have been no need for him to take up the padayatra braving the heat and now the rains had the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues resolved the people's issues.

"Let KCR take up a padayatra and reach out to the people. I will immediately stop my foot march," he said.

He exhorted the BJP workers not to get provoked by the TRS attacks.

"Let us receive the stones pelted by them as flowers. Let us continue our padayatra and understand the peoples' issues," he said.

Earlier, Bandi hoisted the national flag and recalled the glorious fight of the people of Devaruppula during the Telangana armed struggle against the Nizam rule. He called upon the people to fight with the same spirit and pull down the KCR government in the next elections.
