The police on Thursday detained media persons who went to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad hoping to report on the arrival of the body of Mandhadi Yadireddy, who committed suicide allegedly for the cause of Telangana in New Delhi.
The police did not allow the media to cover the event, and took Yadireddy's body in an ambulance under tight security to Moinabad, Rangareddy district, his birth place.
Tension prevailed at Shamshabad airport for some time, as heated arguments ensued between the police and the journalists. The scribes were objecting to the police not allowing them to cover the event.
When the situation seemingly went out of hand, the police arrested the journalists and shifted them to the Rajendranagar police station.
The police also arrested TRS leaders Shravan Kumar and Nayani Narsimha Reddy when they demanded that the police shift the body to the Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park. (INN)
