T-Assembly Pays Rich Tributes To Telangana Martyrs

On Saturday, the Telangana State Legislative Assembly paid rich tributes to those who had laid down their lives for the cause of statehood for the Telangana region.

As soon as the House met on Saturday, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao moved a resolution paying tributes to the martyrs.

He first paid rich tributes to Telangana ideologue Prof Jayashankar.

He said that Prof Jayashankar had joined the Telangana movement as a student in 1948-52. He had inspired hundreds of youth to join the movement, and had remained firm on his demand throughout his life.

He said that it was sad that Prof Jayashankar was not around when the lone and ultimate goal of his life had been accomplished.

Recalling the Telangana movement of 1969, KCR said that hundreds of youth had sacrificed their lives and careers during the struggle. He said that as many as 369 lives had been lost in the police firing during the 1969 movement.

The agitation had turned more severe since the last decade wherein nearly 1,500 people had laid down their lives for the cause of seeking statehood for Telangana. He said that K Srikanth Chary's sacrifice in 2009 shook everyone.

The Chief Minister said that the people of Telangana would remain indebted to the martyrs for their great sacrifices. He vowed that the TRS government would take all possible measures to take care of the families of the martyrs.

All Opposition Parties, including the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party, supported the resolution.

Speaking on the resolution, the Opposition legislators said that the sacrifices made by the youth and the students would always be remembered.

They asked the government to expedite the payment of monetary relief to the families of the martyrs, to withdraw cases booked during the Telangana agitation, and to build a memorial for the martyrs, especially for Srikanth Chary. (INN)
