A person named Katika Ravi, 29, a resident of Srirangavaram village in Medchal, was today sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 in a case of torturing and murdering his wife.
Ravi and his wife got married in 2015 in the presence of the elders of both sides. At the time of the wedding the parents of the deceased had given gold, silver and other household articles, and cash of Rs 50,000, to Ravi as dowry.
Thereafter she joined the family of the accused, but she had led her conjugal life for barely a week when the accused started demanding her to arrange an additional dowry of Rs 3 lakhs.
When she expressed the inability of her parents to give that kind of money, Ravi turned wild and started torturing her physically and mentally, with his mother and brother joining him.
Vexed by their gruesome harassments, Ravi's wife went to her parents' house and informed them about what was happening. The village elders then spoke with Ravi and his family members, admonishing them and asking them not to repeat such acts, and sent the girl back to her in-laws' place.
But Ravi and his family again started torturing the girl. They then one day killed her by setting fire to her saree, which resulted in her getting completely burnt and losing her life. Ravi was arrested and sent to judicial custody on 25th November 2018.
The II ADJ Court at L B Nagar convicted Ravi today, and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000.
