In a bizarre incident, Raju Chary from the Jeedimetla area, aged about 50, created a sensation by cutting his tongue with a blade at the C Block in the Telangana secretariat, which is the office of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, this evening.
The act had him bleeding from the mouth, and created a commotion at the CMO. Security personnel immediately rushed him to the Mediciti hospital nearby.
Chary, a carpenter by profession, came to the CMO and tried in vain to meet the officials for his pending pension, and thereby resorted to the extreme act, it is said.
According to information, he was a good carpenter and used to earn well before the statehood movement. However, being a Telangana protagonist Chary reportedly actively participated in the statehood fight and even tried to set himself ablaze during the statehood movement when it was at its zenith. He is said to have lost his fingers and sustained injuries on the chest in that incident.
Since then, being handicapped, Chary kept on trying to get a pension, meeting local leaders and seeking the help of officials in vain. As his continued efforts all failed, he made it to the CMO to represent his case, and things led to him cutting off his tongue there.
It is to be seen whether the CM's office will react to the poignant incident and offer the victim a pension or financial assistance.
