Task Force sleuths on Tuesday apprehended a man who had dubiously collected money from several engineering students by promising them that he would help them clear their their examinations/backlogs.
According to the Task Force officials, Mohd Basheer Khan, from New Mallepally in the city, was introduced to a few engineering students from the Deccan Engineering College, Darussalam, by their college-mate Imran and one Firasat of Mallepally.
Basheer had told the students that he could help them clear all their backlogs as he had a set-up with the engineering faculties of all the colleges affiliated to the Osmania University.
He demanded a price of Rs. 10,000 - Rs. 18,000 per paper, depending on the marks required by the students. This way, Basheer had lured several students of the Deccan Engineering College, the MJ Engineering College and the CBIT College, and had collected a total of Rs. 10 lakhs approximately.
When the students failed in the revaluation exam, they asked Basheer to return their amount. However, Basheer claimed that the Osmania University staff members had taken the money, and were not returning it.
He had also threatened the students that if they insisted on getting the amount back, he would ensure that they fail the examinations.
The students filed a complaint with the police after Basheer resorted to threatening them of dire consequences. The police arrested Basheer and handed him over to the SHO, Habeebnagar police station, for further action.
