In a significant development for Telangana's investment landscape, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today announced a strategic partnership with the fast food chain McDonald's, culminating in the establishment of the company's Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad.
McDonald's Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski said that Hyderabad was selected over other cities, including Bengaluru, due to its high-quality talent pool, robust infrastructure and superior quality of life. He also said that the GCC was poised to become a pivotal hub for McDonald's operations in India, reflecting the city's growing prominence as a business destination.
Kempczinski added that the company would also implement community development programs in Telangana, in consultation with the State government.
Revanth Reddy claimed that the initiative would create approximately 2,000 jobs.
He also spoke of Telangana's significant investments in skill development over the past 15 months, and asked McDonald's to leverage resources like the Young India Skills University to recruit trained personnel for both its Hyderabad office and its restaurant operations across India, aligning with the State's broader employment objectives.
He also proposed that McDonald's source its agricultural produce from Telangana's farming community, thus boosting the State's agrarian economy and its farmers' incomes.
The agreement was formalised during a meeting attended by senior McDonald's executives, including Skye Anderson, President of Global Business Services; Jon Banner, Chief Global Impact Officer; and Deshant Kaila, Head of GBS India. From the Telangana government, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, Special Chief Secretary for IT Jayesh Ranjan and Secretary to the Chief Minister Ajith Reddy were present.
McDonald's currently operates 38 outlets in Telangana and plans to add three to four new restaurants annually, including in tier-2 and tier-3 towns, further expanding its footprint in the region.
