Internal conflicts within the Telangana Congress reportedly intensified as former MLC Konda Murali and Forest Minister Konda Surekha today met AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan at the MLA Quarters in Hyderabad to present their side of the story.
The couple submitted a 16-page letter to Natarajan, highlighting troubling developments within the Warangal unit of the party.
This meeting came after Murali recently appeared before the TPCC Disciplinary Committee following a complaint from former Congress MLAs from the erstwhile Warangal district. The MLAs accused him of making inappropriate remarks and interfering in matters concerning other constituencies.
In response, Murali submitted a counter-complaint, alleging that the complainant MLAs were involved in activities detrimental to the party.
Later, speaking with the media, Surekha said that her husband and she had briefed Natarajan about the situation in the district. She asserted that they would not deviate from the party line, and were committed to reinforcing the party. She said that their intent was to strengthen the Congress and help elevate Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to the post of Prime Minister.
She also expressed confidence that the Congress would display its strength by winning a majority of seats in the upcoming local body elections.
Murali said that the couple had acted within the party's framework and would fully abide by the high command's directives. "I won't be intimidated by anyone. But I will also respect any decision taken by the Congress high command," he said.
He also said that he was committed to the welfare and development of the Backward Classes, and denied allegations of factionalism or interference in other constituencies.
Answering mediapersons' questions about her daughter joining active politics, Surekha said, "This is not the right time to talk about my daughter's entry into politics. However, she is considering contesting in the upcoming elections. If the party leadership gives her an opportunity, she will certainly contest."
