Magadheera' was, on Thursday, named the best popular feature film providing wholesome entertainment by the State government, which announced the Nandi awards for the year 2009.
The Golden Nandi award was given to director Sunil Kumar Reddy's 'Sontha Ooru'. The Film also fetched LB Sriram the best dialogue writer award.
The Nara Rohit starrer, 'Banam' directed by Chaitanya Dantuluri, was adjudged the 2nd best film.
'
Kalavaramaye Madilo' was adjudged the 3rd best feature film. The film also won Chitra the best female playback singer award.
Theertha was adjudged best actress and Dasari Narayana Rao the best actor for their roles in the films 'Sontha Ooru' and 'Mestri' respectively.
'Leader' won Sekhar Kammula the best story writer award, while '
Drona' bagged the best child actor award (Sai Krishna). Keeravani won the best music director award for his score in the film '
Vengamamba'.
Rajamouli was adjudged the best director for his 'Magadheera', which also won the best popular feature film providing wholesome entertainment award.
The Akkineni Nageswara Rao award for best home entertainer went to 'Koncham Ishtam Koncham Kashtam'. The special jury awards went to Srikanth for his role in 'Mahatma', Ram Charan for 'Magadheera' and Genelia for 'Katha'.
Ramya Krishna was named best actress in a supporting role for the film '
Raju Maharaju', and Ram Jagan got the award for the best actor in a supporting role for 'Mahatma'.
Tarakaratna got the best villain award for 'Amaravathi'.
Legendary singer SP Balasubramaniam won the best male playback singer award for the film 'Mahatma'.
The other awards include Suman Pathuri (best debut director), Shiva Shankar (best choreographer), Rama Rajamouli (best costume designer) and Vakkala Kishore (best male comedian).
