A 21 km Outer Ring Road stretch funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) between Shamirpet and Ghatkesar is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Telangana Minister For Urban Development K T Rama Rao on Friday at 12 noon in Ghatkesar.
Representatives of the Japanese embassy and JICA are expected to be present during this function.
157 km of the 158 km of the Rs 623-crore ORR have been completed. The rest of the work at Medchal is still in progress.
After opening the stretch of the ORR from Shamirpet to Ghatkesar, the traffic from Karimnagar going towards Warangal and Vijayawada can use the ORR, thereby reducing the congestion of traffic in the Secunderabad, Uppal and L B Nagar areas. The interchanges at Shamirpet, Keesara and Ghatkesar are now open for commuters.
The contractors for this project were Gayatri Projects and NCC, and the supervising consultants were Nippon Koei and Aarvee Associates.
