Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao today made a surprise inspection of various ongoing works in Hyderabad and gave instructions to officials to expedite works.
Rao started off by inspecting the works on the steel bridge being constructed from Indira Park to VST at a cost of nearly Rs 426 crore, and directed the officials to complete them in three months.
The GHMC is under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) constructing a 2.8 km four-lane bi-directional steel bridge from Indira Park to VST.
"The works related to the steel bridge should be completed in three months. If there is any need for additional manpower, you can engage them, but complete the works within a stipulated period," KTR told the officials.
The proposed project would give relief from traffic congestion to lakhs of people and ease the flow of traffic at the RTC crossroads, KTR said.
The minister also said that public safety should be given priority during the execution of the works, and instructed the GHMC to coordinate with the traffic police to impose the traffic diversions needed for the purpose.
Later, the minister inspected the Strategic Nala Development Program (SNDP) works at the Hussain Sagar surplus nala and assessed the retaining wall works being taken up at Ashok Nagar.
Stating that huge funds had been allocated for the Hussain Sagar surplus nala, KTR said that the construction of the retaining wall would protect low-lying areas from flood waters from the lake, and asked the GHMC officials to complete the works before the monsoons set in.
